Update old home intercom system

Related Discussions What to do with old intercom system Q. I use to have one of those in my house growing up. When my parents were not home and I was watching my little sister I use to scare her by talking scary through the system. Funny then, not so cool of me in reflection : I would not remove it as your house is already pre-wired so it will be easy to upgrade. Some of the new ones have cameras for face to face conversations and ipod docking stations. I love it and would keep the feature but update it.

I am getting a bit concerned about having the Schluter system used. My tile installer has been using it for seven years he claims so he should be familiar with it. He said he had used that floating method in more than installs and has had no problems with any leaking. When you mentioned large size tile being difficult to install with this system, that made me more concerned because the tile I am using is 40"x13". The people who were sent to work on my bathroom, even though they work for the tile installing company I hired, don't seem to be very experienced and I do worry that they may be over their their head with the Schluter system.

I am really not sure which way to go with this. I feel that they are obsolete and not necessary. Today everything in a house can be congtrolled wirelessly with a smart phone I resolved the problem of an old intercom in the entry hall of a rental apartment in Hong Kong by buying a large 24" x 6' tall mirror and leaning it against the intercom Now all that the guests see upon entering is a nice mirror The ugly intercom is hidden behind.

I would suggest making the fireplace a focal point with some changes. Square off the slab on the floor and let your new flooring fill in the void on each side. Square off the mantle and either cover it with finish work or leave it the rough look, but either way add supports. Get rid of the wood wall over the fireplace. A nice mirror would work nicely there. Add accent molding. The pictures below will illustrate what I mean. Not quite literally but to give a sense of the direction I'm going in.

Also bring the top of the bookcase to the ceiling and tie everything together with crown molding. You can cover the old crown over without even removing it. The room needs a wider crown anyway. In reference to the bottom cabinets of the bookcase and your LP collection.

I didn't know about them when I posted previously. You might be able to install heavy duty drawer hardware in order to slide pull out drawers filled with LPs.

The doors could be connected to the drawers. Do not put a tv over the fireplace or built into the cabinet. Can't we have a room in the house without a tv? Read your wonderfully displayed books in peace and enjoy that room. No matter what you decide. Please keep us posted. Ken Scott 3 months ago. The only issue, for me anyway, was indeed the aesthetics; concealing the old original intercom wall opening which is 'portrait shaped' and integrating the Show which is 'Landscape' Orientation; so it might look a bit odd with the overlay panel but maybe not any more so than the round dots depending on your own perspective You can get an idea of how the landscape on portrait looks if you scroll up the thread to post by Justin Jordan who 3-d printed his own adapters.

Like 1 Save. With the tablets, you can get 2-way as you can with your phone and it can come up automatically or by command I have a tile to launch from my Sharptools home screen panel and also automation in Alexa to display on 'Ring' - but it will not display on motion detect at least haven't figured that out yet I first tried the Ring and sent it back great Amazon feature - honestly the performance was extremely poor - it would not work AT ALL with my Android phone, but was fine with my Wife's i-phone; I just hated it even before I got the Eufy.

I'm in the US. I have a voltage meter somewhere but I don't know how to use it really. Michael Levy 2 months ago. Ken Scott 2 months ago. Stephen McGloughlin 2 months ago. Ah OK. I hadn't seen the JBL Clip before, had to google it Does someone make some kind of wall mount for it, or were you going to create something? If I went with an echo dot, would I still need a 5v converter at each station? Echo Dots are 12V There are recommendations above for 12V supplies on Amazon - 24V devices are going to be similar if going with dots just get a straight 12V supply Just search on EBay or amazon for 5V converter.

However the Alexa system or google if that is your preference gives you so much more! My wife is a big fan of playing 'sleep music' with a time duration rider when she goes to bed e.

Alexa, play Sleep Music for 20 minutes and it auto shuts off after she falls asleep If you are new to Smart devices, the very simplest way to get started is just to install Smart Bulbs - most integrate with Alexa and you get immediate voice control to dim or even change colour just by your spoken command. For ceiling fixtures I would replace the actual wall switch - for table lamps, I use smart bulbs. Justin Jordan 27 days ago. Helmie Ashiblie 19 days ago. Ken Scott 18 days ago. Perhaps the best part of upgrading security control panels is that old devices still work with new, upgraded boards. Upgrading to wireless monitoring is how a large majority of people choose to upgrade older systems. Nearly all systems, even the very old ones, can be monitored wirelessly. Traditionally, alarm systems have been connected to telephone lines and when the alarm was tripped the signal was sent via the phone line. Recent technological advancements now allow security systems even old ones to be monitored by sending signals via cell towers instead of phone lines.

By sending signals this way it eliminates the possibility of burglars cutting phone lines before breaking and entering. The upgrade to wireless home monitoring takes an old system and really brings it into the 21 st century by improving the technology and making the system even safer than ever.
